Hope Blooms - Annual Campaign 2023
Imagine what it must feel like for a woman about to leave her abusive partner, with her children in tow, only to find herself back there in a matter of days or weeks.
Recidivism rates for domestic violence are sky high.
Did you know that on average it takes a person 7-8 times before they can actually leave an abusive relationship? This is what Rebel Thriver is working so hard to prevent, women returning to the abuse because they feel they have no other choice.
This campaign is not here to educate you about the many reasons this happens, but to help you to understand the nefarious nature of abuse, and why it is so important that survivors of abuse have a safety net like Rebel Thriver.
You are indeed here for those who need a helping hand you’ve saved me a couple of times in the last few years, and I will never forget you for the love and support- Janie
Women who are isolated from their friends and family, and don’t have a support system to lean on, are often casualties. If they are able to leave, the cruel reality is that suitable housing and financial stability are lacking. While feeling lost and alone, the abuser will do their best to break them down in order to get them to return home. They will promise change, love, and a new beginning. This is called “love bombing” and is a part of the cycle of violence. This is why overwhelmed and exhausted women breakdown and return home. They have simply run out of options.
Sadly, once they return things are often worse than they were before they left. Abusers will use their attempted escape as an excuse for continued and intensified abuse. Once again, the victim will find herself stuck in the cycle of violence, and hopeless.
There is a void that exists for survivors after they break away from abuse. This void is a result of a lack of resources. While shelters and local domestic violence agencies are there to help victims escape the abuse, once they leave there isn’t much in place to help them stay the course, heal, and not return to the abuse.
I had just begun to climb out of the darkness when I found your page. I’m not exactly sure, but I think it was 10 years ago. Thank you for sharing, and for being a light in the darkness. My life is so much better than I could’ve ever imagined back then. -Amanda
Rebel Thriver is a unique nonprofit, in that we are a movement of survivors. Our Village is a homebase for us to begin the healing process. When someone joins our community, we always welcome them 'home', and a home it truly has become for so many of us. Oftentimes, this is the only place that a survivor can come to be supported, educated, and mentored. Trauma informed teaching and guidance helps survivors create a roadmap forward to healthy and abundant life, full of hope for a better tomorrow.
The work we do is critical in battling alarmingly high recidivism rates.
Here are some additional startling facts:
- On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.
- On a typical day, there are more than 21,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide!
- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men, and countless children, have been victims of domestic violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
- The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of homicide by 500%, and 19% of domestic violence involves a weapon.
- Victims of domestic violence lose a total of 8M days of paid work each year.
The cost of domestic violence exceeds $8.3 Billion per year.
“It is so comforting to finally realize that you’re not alone, even when friends and family “don’t get it”, you know that someone out there actually understands. After 15+ years of living in a narcissistic relationship, and many years planning and executing a safe exit plan, I finally escaped. Oh, how I wish I would’ve known about loving and safe spaces such as this back then. It's been more than 10 years since my divorce and I am just now finding my voice, and finally starting to feel comfortable sharing my story. Thank you for all you do.” -GM

We named this campaign ‘HOPE BLOOMS’, because we see it daily. Women knock on our door, and more times than not, they are broken down shells of their former selves. However, they are always eager to learn, commit to healing, and to changing their lives, and the lives of their children.
We are a tribe of self healers who continue to walk forward together as one, always reaching back to the women who are just finding our door. Our light is always on, and our mission is to continue a cycle of healing for all.
Thank you for your kind words, and for recognizing the strength and resilience of women. We’re all in this together and it’s wonderful to have a community of inspiring women to support each other. - alyona
